DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

WMO is seeking a highly motivated graduate student who wishes to gain professional experience working with Gender Equality in Geneva. This internship is available for a duration of six months, extending to a maximum of twelve months, and is to commence in November 2024.

The internship is paid and full-time. Interns are expected to work five days per week under the supervision of the WMO Gender Focal Point Coordinator / Knowledge and Information Management Officer within the Governance Service (GS) Department.

The aim of the internship is to offer practical professional Gender Equality experience and provide the opportunity to work in a multicultural, intergovernmental organization.

Under the overall supervision of the Gender Focal Point Coordinator/Knowledge and Information Management Officer, the intern will be engaged in the following duties:

  • Provide support to the Gender Focal Point Coordinator and the Gender Focal Point Network on the implementation and monitoring of the WMO Gender Action Plan

  • Organize regular meetings of the network, coordinated by the Gender Focal Point Coordinator.

  • Liaise with members of the WMO Gender Focal Point Network on the Gender Action Plan

  • Assist the WMO Gender Focal Point Network on various projects and activities, including the preparation of communication pieces, trainings, and general administrative support

  • Provide support to WMO units on Gender Mainstreaming

  • Draft minutes and provide inputs to concept notes, talking points, presentations and reports

  • Support internal communications and update Intranet content related to gender and diversity

  • Provide thematic and conceptual support for the organization of gender capacity building webinars

  • Support in the management of communities of practice related to Gender

  • Support in the compilation of regular disaggregated statistics on progress towards gender equality goals expressed in the Gender Action Plan

  • Support the Gender Network in UN-SWAP reporting activities

  • Perform other related duties as required.




QUALIFICATIONS

Education

At least a bachelor's degree in gender studies, communications, international development, social sciences, public administration, or other relevant fields is required.

Experience

Applicants are not required to have professional work experience for participation in the WMO Internship programme. Your training, education, advance course work or skills should benefit the WMO during your internship.

The following will be an asset:

  • Knowledge of UN Gender Equality practices and frameworks

  • Proficiency in Microsoft 365: Word, Excel, PowerPoint. Experience with SharePoint would be an advantage.

Other requirements

  • Have a demonstrated keen interest in the work of the United Nations and its specialized agencies such as WMO

  • Have a demonstrated ability to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs, which include willingness to try and understand and be tolerant of differing opinions and views

Languages

Excellent knowledge of English (spoken and written) is essential. Knowledge of the other official languages of WMO would be an advantage.

(Note: The official languages of the Organization are Arabic, Chinese, English, French, Russian and Spanish.)
